Radiochemical separation of mercury from biological material
Description
A method has been developed for the separation of mercury from neutron-irradiated biological material. The biological material is decomposed by wet combustion in concentrated nitric acid and mercury is separated by extraction with a chloroform solution of thionalide from nitric acid solution (1:3). Mercury tracer 197Hg was obtained by irradiating an appropriate amount of the standard solution in a nuclear reactor. Radioactive tracers used for studying the effects of foreign ions (76As, 198Au, sup(110m)Ag, 64Cu, 122Sb, sup(117m)Sn 187W, 99Mo, 77Ge, 115Cd, 194Ir,109Pd, 197Pt, sup(210m)Bi were obtained by neutron irradiation of solutions.
