Description

Radioactive products, by-products and wastes also arise from industries other than nuclear power generation. The current management of materials that are radioactive but often not recognised as such is discussed. An increasing awareness of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) is pointed out, and the enhancement of their concentration in various non-nuclear industries is considered. The radiological impact of NORM is discussed, and the regulation need for consistence amongst NORM-producing industries is proposed. (R.P.)
