Magnetic properties of Gdsub(x)Ysub(1-x)Fesub(3) type intermetallic compounds

Description
The exchange interactions and the magnetic ordering have been investigated in intermetallic quasi-binary compounds in the Gdsub(x)Ysub(1-x)Fesub(3) system. The magnetization has been measured within the temperature range of 4.2 to 700 K, the magnetostriction and the Curie temperature have been determined on the samples prepared from the aforesaid alloys. It is shown that in the Gdsub(x)Ysub(1-x)Fesub(3) system there exists the ferromagnetic ordering of the spins of gadolinium and iron. It has been found that the magnetic moment of iron varies but slightly as the concentration of gadolinium increases. This proves the stability of the electron configuration of iron atoms. The effective exchange field has been determined, which affects the sublattice of gadolinium
