Study of the radiation effect on porcine bones using Ft-IR

Description

Bone is the main component for the human body, it has an inorganic matrix whose mineral is composed of calcium and magnesium cations and phosphate anion, in the form of hydroxyapatite. These minerals do not remain fixed, they constantly have a bone remodeling process that, cause less bone mass and that the bones weaken and are more likely to break by modifying their structure, as well as biochemical processes. By using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (Ftir) technique, these changes in the composition of molecular structure are obtained. the changes in the structure of the hydroxyapatite were the subject of the study in this work, which was exposed to different radiation sources. It is reported that this IR radiation alters the structure of biological materials and their chemical properties, that were studied in pig bone, which were irradiated four hours a day in 5 days. The resulting spectrum shows that in the wavelengths between 740 nm and 1400 nm, the hydroxyapatite molecule is restructured since the OH band (3650-3590 cm -1) that is a possible change due to the time and temperature of the radiation sources, as well as the importance of the cleaning method, which shows spectra of fatty acids.
