On the use of nuclear magnetic resonance to measure velocity and its fluctuations in single-phase and two-phase flows
Description
This work deals with the use of NMR to measure velocity and its fluctuations in single-phase and two-phase flows. PGSE and imaging sequences have been used to determine the velocity distributions in upward turbulent pipe flows. NMR signals have been analysed in detail and the main artifacts have been characterized and suppressed. The measuring technique has been validated by comparison with a reference published data. A first comparison to 'homemade' hot-wire results in single-phase flow of water is presented and is very promising. Preliminary NMR results in two-phase flows emphasize the interest of NMR to benchmark velocity measurements in two-phase flows. Prospects of research have been identified, which will pave the way for the sequel of this research. (author)
Abstract (French)
Ce travail de these porte sur l'utilisation de la RMN pour determiner les vitesses et leurs fluctuations en ecoulements monophasiques et diphasiques. Des sequences PGSE et d'imagerie en vitesse ont ete mises au point pour determiner les distributions des vitesses dans des ecoulements turbulents en conduite verticaux. Les signaux RMN sont etudies en detail et les principaux artefacts sur les donnees sont identifiees, caracterises et supprimes. La mesure de vitesse est validee, en monophasique, par comparaison a des donnees de reference. Une premiere comparaison avec des fils chauds en eau, de notre conception, est egalement presentee et montre des resultats encourageants en monophasique. Des mesures RMN preliminaires en ecoulements diphasique montrent l'interet d'utiliser cette technique de mesure pour le developpement de l'instrumentation en diphasique. Des axes de recherche ont ete identifies qui structureront la poursuite de l'etude
