Magnetization measurement on thulium nicotinate dihydrate compound
Description
The thulium nicotinate dihydrate (TmND) has the formula unit [Tm3+(C2H4 NCO2)3(H2 O)]2. Magnetization measurements in magnetic fields up to 12 Tesla have been done on TmND single crystals, the magneic field was applied parallel and perpendicular to the a-axis, in the temperature range from 2 to 100 K. The Tm3+ ions in this system produce a van Vleck paramagnetic compound. It was found that the magnetic moment per thulium ion is highly anisotropic and field dependent at lower temperatures, while it is linearly dependent on field above 20 K for the two crystallographic directions. The initial magnetic susceptibility decreases with the increase in temperature> Our results have a similar behavior as the magnetization of holmium nicotinate dihydrate compound.
