Interaction of electromagnetic oscillations in a H-resonator loaded by a passive resonance element of the type of ''metal loop with concentrated capacitance''

Description

Interaction of the Hsub(11e)-type oscillations with a passive resonance element is considered. The dispersion characteristic of the accelerating structure and distribution of the electric field strength along the resonator axis have been determined by solution of the wave equation for the longitudinal component of the magnetic field strength vector. The passive resonance element is described by the method of equivalent circuits. It is shown that ''the metal loop with concentrated capacitance'' is an effective means of controlling the profile of the accelerating electric field in charged particle linear accelerators employing H-type oscillations. The efficiency of this element has been experimentally checked on the accelerating structure model which is actually a resonator with the radius (a) of 0.125 m and length (L) of 0.67 m, loaded with twenty drift tubes whose length, diameter and spacing are equal to 0.012 m. The drift tubes have been mounted on two solid suspensions, 0.48 m in length. Theoretical and experimental data make it possible to draw the following conclusion: the passive resonance element represented by ''the metal loop with concentrated capacitance'' is an effective means of controlling the profile of the accelerating electric field in charged particle linear accelerators employing H-type oscillations
