American national standard for the specification of portable x- or gamma-radiation survey instruments
Creators
Description
This standard does not provide a series of performance requirements but rather the means of stating or describing performance. The recommendations contained herein apply to specifications for portable X- or gamma-radiation survey instruments. Each of these instruments includes a detector and visual, analog and/or digital type readout. In recognition of the practical difficulties inherent in exposure measurements in the energy region above a few MeV, two broad energy ranges have been delineated: (1) less than or equal to 1.5 MeV, and (2) >1.5 MeV. The photon energy from 60Co, which is widely used for test and calibration, is conveniently near the upper limit of the low range
