Non medical uses of radioisotopes
Description
This paper discusses or lists a number of fields on non-medical uses of radioisotopes, either as radiation sources or tracers, including the following: food irradiation; animal or plant husbandry; insect control (e.g. for tstetse fly); ground water tracing; oil (or geothermal) well logging; radiography; and, radioisotope metrology. The example of Japan shows that biological uses (in the broadest sense) are growing rapidly, while demand for industrial isotopes, such as iridium 192 and nickel 63, is somewhat stagnant
