The earthquake monitoring system of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, Hungary

In the framework of safety measures introduced at the four units of Paks Nuclear Power Plant, a new earthquake monitoring system was installed. For high-level earthquakes endangering the plant, it generates signals for reactor shutdown, and it records the history of the earthquakes at various sites of the plant. Records of low-level ground movements can be utilized for the analysis of vibration resistance of buildings and technological installations. (R.P.) 3 refs.; 2 figs
