Purification system for contaminated water using liquid-solid settling technology by coagulating agent

Description
Contaminated water mainly with cesium 137 produced from reactor accident of Fukushima nuclear power plant on March 11, 2011 in Japan will be hopefully purified by adding iron-ferrocyanides and coagulating agent for use of agricultural service. The principle of this method is cesium 137 first taken in iron-ferrocyanide forms precipitation by added some coagulating agent and then it will be separated by solid-liquid separation system. The present paper discusses the above method, the properties of coagulating agent (flocculant), and the preliminary results of demonstration using non-radioactive cesium and the water of a school swimming pool.
