Transition densities from (e,e') and (p,p') data

Description

Precise radial transition charge densities are routinely extracted from electroexcitation data and present important challenges to microscopic theories of nuclear structure. Much less is known about neutron transition densities. We have developed analysis methods which exploit the complementarity between electromagnetic and hadronic probes of nuclear structure. Empirical effective interactions are fitted to (p,p') data for self-conjugate nuclei, given densities measured by (e,e'). Linear expansions of neutron transition densities are then fitted to (p,p') data for other nuclei. The technique is tested by analyzing data for several proton energies or for self-conjugate nuclei. Several examples are presented
