Radioactive Noble gases, new approaches for monitoring and new challenges for metrology

Description
The problems of measuring of 222Rn, 85Kr and 1'33Xe are presented. The approaches for retrospective measurements of 222Rn: Etching of eye-glass lenses Glass-implanted 210Pb; Volume traps; Radon absorption in Makrofol or Makrofol-equivalent polycarbonates. The essence of the later method used in the experiments during the last 5 years is presented. The remarkable ability of Makrofol and Makrofol-equivalent polycarbonates to absorb noble gases, in particular is used. Makrofol-equivalent plastics are the basic constructive material of compact disks and DVDs, which are widely distributed commercial products. The idea is to use home stored CDs and DVDs as retrospective radon dosimeters. Measurements of 85Kr and 133Xe in air by absorption in Makrofol are also presented
