Mechanism of anodic oxidation of intermetallic compound Cd21Ni5 in concentrated KOH solutions

  • 1. Saratovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Saratov (USSR)

Description

A study was made on kinetics and mechanism of anodic oxidation of intermetallic compound (IMC) Cd21Ni5 in 8.1 N solution of KOH. It was established that IMC oxidation proceeded with lower rate, as compared to pure Cd and in wider range of potentials, shifted to anodic region. It was shown that deterioration of discharge characteristics of cadmium electrode of alkaline accumulator after storage was conditioned by low rate of anodic oxidation of Cd from IMC Cd21N5, which was limited by diffusion of Cd atoms in the surface layer of alloy
