  • 1. College of Agriculture, Nagpur (India)
  • 2. College of Agriculture, Parabhani (India)

Description

The brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) fruits of the gamma irradiated plant progeny were analysed for their crude protein (CPC) and vitamin C content in R1 generation at the College of Agriculture, Parbhani kharif 1972. Gamma irradiation doses used were 15,20,30,40,60 and 80 kR. Three varieties namely Long white,Pusa Purple cluster (PPC) and Manjrigota were tested. Gamma irradiation increased CPC of fruits by 0.87 percent in variety Manjrigota in doses of 20 and 40 kR, while other doses decreased it by less than 1 percent in PPC. The treatments increased vitamin C content of fruit that ranged from 8.10 to 56.91 percent, 7.09 to 8.62 percent and 10.62 to 26.77 percent over control in long white, PPC and Manjrigota respectively. Slight increase in titratable acidity was observed. (author)
