Gas generation at radiation-thermal loads on construction materials in storages of solidified high-level radioactive wastes in slightly permeable rocks
- 1. Radievyj Inst., Leningrad (Russian Federation)
Description
Intensity of gaseous products generation during radiation-thermal loads on the systems simulating conditions of high-level solidified waste disposal in granitoid rock formations has been studied under laboratory conditions. It is shown that in the systems metal (stainless steel, copper, titanium) -sealing material (clay) - enclosing rock (granite, porphyrite) in the absence of a free water phase in the storage a relatively low release of radiolytic gases (hydrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen) is observed at the expense of radiolysis of water in the rock pores and filling materials. Radiation yield in terms of hydrogen does not exceed 1.5 x 10-2 molecules/100 eV. 6 refs., 4 tabs
