Description
In this work 4-(123I)iodoantipyrine was synthesized to carry 123I across the cell and nuclear membrane to permit the deposition of Auger electrons in cellular DNA. For studies with cells in culture the radiolabelling method has to be free of reagents that could affect cellular division. Also, a high specific activity of the isotope is required to irradiate cells to measurable levels of biological damage within a period of about 20 hours. A radiolabeling method was developed to produce 4-(123I)iodoantipyrine in a form suitable to fulfill these requirements. Two cell types were exposed to this compound and radiological data is presented that reflects the high.LET characteristics of Auger electrons
