Recovery and purification of 233U from 233U-Al alloy scraps (Preprint No. CT-4)
- 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Fuel Reprocessing Div.
Description
The proposed KAMINI reactor at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam will use 233U-Al alloy as fuel. During the fuel fabrication stages recovery and recycling of scraps like alloy filings, powder and graphite crucible residues were required. The technique adopted was nitric acid dissolution of the alloy catalysed by mercuric nitrate followed by purification of 233U based on TBP extraction. The experience and the results obtained are described. (author)
