Multi-channel spectrometer of charged particles

Description

A charged particle multichannel spectrometer permitting particle-identification according to their mass and charge, as well as to measure their energy is described. The spectrometer consists of four of semiconductor detector telescopes and one channel of the beam monitor. Each telescope includes three semiconductor detectors, namely, a time-of-flight (dE/dx) detector for measurement of specific losses, a full absorption detector (E detector) and a detector of the anticoincidences circuit. The accelerated particle beam monitoring is carried out by a telescope consisting of two detectors with 60 μm thickness, switched in coincidences. The spectrometer is operated on line the BESM-4 computer. The data output system is considered, it is designed for transformation, packing and transmission of data obtained from registration channels and ionitor channel, into computer. Besides, the data output system carries out the storage and transfer of service information. Computer codes for a spectrometer is briefly described. It includes the calibration program, program of operation in the regime of processing and information accumulation as well as programs of experimental data processing recorded on the magnetic tape. Mass spectra and energy spectra, obtained during the target irradiation with 124Sn protons with 7.5 GeV energy, are presented to illustrate the spectrometer operation
