Detection system with a large angular acceptance and an energy high dynamics, for heavy ion physics at intermediate energies: M.E.ω. detector
Description
Built for intermediate energy heavy ions nuclear physics, the M.E.ω. detector uses various and complementary detection methods: ionization chamber, parallel plate avalanche counter, plastic scintillators. With these techniques, velocity, energy, mass and charge of nuclei were measured over wide range. From the detailed theoretical study of each method, limitations and perturbation causes are deduced. The solutions used for optimizing the detector, and the main results are exposed. The internal sectorisation of the detector, which permits a modulation in counting rate and electronical adjustments, has been revealed to be very suitable for heavy ions intermediate energy physics. Results of the first experiment realised with M.E.ω. (Ar + Ag at 35 MeV/u) are commented

Destine a la physique des ions lourds aux energies intermediaires, le detecteur M.E.ω. fait appel a des techniques de detection tres variees (chambre d'ionisation, plaques paralleles, plastiques scintillants), et complementaires. Elles permettent la mesure de la vitesse et de l'energie de noyaux, donc de leur masse et de leur charge, pour de grandes dynamiques. De l'etude theorique approfondie de chacune de ces techniques, on en deduit les limitations et les sources de perturbation. On explique les methodes utilisees pour l'optimisation du compteur et les resultats obtenus. La sectorisation interne du detecteur, qui permet un ajustement des taux de comptage et des reglages electroniques en fonction de l'angle, s'est revelee bien adaptee a la physique des ions lourds aux energies intermediaires. On commente enfin la premiere experience, realisee avec M.E.ω., sur le systeme Ar (35MeV/U) + AgFiles
