Lungs of neonates after the surfactant therapy

Description

The aim of the study is to determine changes of chest x-ray picture in newborns with respiratory distress syndrome after therapeutical administration of surfactant. High-resolution and high-contrast digital images of chest x-ray were evaluated in 20 neonates with respiratory distress syndrome. Their changes after administration of surfactant were followed up. The surfactant administration in neonates with respiratory distress syndrome improves the pulmonary aeration. Asymmetrical and temporary improvement, namely in combination with barotrauma have bad prognostic values. (authors)
