High burn-up performance of duplex claddings

Description

To decrease fuel cycle cost in light water reactors, the continuing trend is to increase the discharge burn-up. Waterside corrosion and its related impact on cladding performance continuous to be a potential life-limiting phenomenon to extending burn-up beyond currently approved limits. To extend discharge burn-ups, ABB has devoted significant resources to material development, including better control of composition and fabrication of Zircaloy-2 and Zircaloy-4, and to the development of new advanced alloys.
