Establishment of 137Cs radiation fields for instrument calibration
Description
In order to study the energy dependence of clinical dosemeters, systems constituted of ionization chambers connected to special electrometers, many times their calibration with the gamma radiation of 137Cs is necessary. In this case, the radiation field characterization is fundamental. The source used presents and activity of 38,8 Tbq and belongs to the Calibration Laboratory of IPEN. Dosimetric films, gammagraphy films, ionization chambers and Lucite phantons were used. At the calibration distance, 80 cm (detector-source detection), the homogeneity of a 10 X 10 cm2 radiation field was equal 68%. (author)

Para o estudo da dependencia energetica dos dosimetros clinicos, sistemas constituidos por camaras de ionizacao acopladas a eletrometros especiais, muitas vezes surge a necessidade de sua calibracao com radiacao gama de 137Cs. E necessaria, neste caso, a caracterizacao do campo de radiacao. A fonte utilizada apresenta uma atividade de 38,8 TBq e faz parte do Laboratorio de Calibracao do IPEN. Foram utilizados filmes dosimetricos, filmes de gamagrafia, camaras de ionizacao e 'phantons' de Lucite para a determinacao do campo de radiacao. A distancia normal de calibracao, 80 cm (distancia fonte-detector), a homogeneidade num campo de 10 X 10 cm2 apresentou-se igual a 68%. (author)Files
