High speed methods of determining the radiation consequences of accident situations at nuclear power plants

  • 1. Institut Biofiziki, Moscow (USSR)

Description

By means of computerized calculations of the radiation consequences of accidents of various degrees of severity at nuclear plants with water cooled, water moderated power reactors (WWER), high power vessel type reactors (RBMK) and fast neutron reactors (BN) a number of simple relationships have been obtained linking the basic radiation parameters within the radioactive plume zone after an accidental release (radioactivity of air, soil and vegetation, external and internal doses to humans) to the measured or calculated gamma radiation dose rates in the contaminated area. Practical application of the high speed methods is shown in the real case of eliminating the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. (author). 14 refs, 5 figs, 8 tabs
