Calvados offshore wind farm - Ecosystemic approach to renewable marine energy: study of the effects on the trophic network of the construction of the Calvados offshore wind farm and the cumulative impacts. Scientific note

Description

As part of the energy transition, the French government is planning to build 40 GW of offshore wind farms by 2050. To date, there has been no comprehensive, integrated study of the effects of the construction and operation of these wind farms on the ecosystems. The main innovation of the TROPHIK project is to lay the methodological foundations for the transition from the 'fragmented' vision of environmental studies to a 'holistic and functional' approach to the ecosystems as a whole (from phytoplankton to seabirds and marine mammals). This holistic approach to the trophic network is innovative in scientific research and in Marine Renewable Energies (MRE). The TROPHIK project lays the foundations for an ecosystem-based approach to marine renewable energies, based on a case study of the future Calvados offshore wind farm, located off Courseulles-sur-Mer in the south of the Bay of Seine
