First report on the transport of Am(III) across PTFE flat sheets containing a diglycolamide extractant in ionic liquid

  • 1. Radiochemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Uptake of Am(III) from nitric acid feed solutions by flat sheet supported liquid membranes containing TODGA in (C4mim){NTf2) as the carrier solvent has been studied for the first time. The extracted metal ion could be stripped from the membrane by contacting with complexing agents such as alpha-hydroxy iso-butyric acid and EDTA. Subsequent transport studies carried out using 3 M HNO3 as the feed and EDTA solution as the receiver resulted in about 50% mass transfer with 5% Am getting trapped in the flat sheet membrane itself.
