Description

External dose measurement was carried out at a selected amang processing plant in Dengkil, Selangor, Malaysia. The objective of the study is to determine the external dose received by the workers as well as factors that determine those doses. Dose measurement was carried out using TLD 100H chipstrates placed at different working areas of the pal nt for three continuous months. The results obtained showed differences in doses that may be attributed to the work activities during the study period, and the types of dosimeters used. Average dose rate received by the workers was 5.18 ± 1.21 mSv y-1 and this was four-fold higher than those reported using TLD 100 in 1995. The dose rate measured was also significantly higher that those recorded using film badge dosimeter. The annual dose to workers exceeded the maximum permissible dose limit for members of the public and this requires a consideration of current classification of amang workers as members of the public.
