The Bruce B delayed neutron (DN) monitoring system for failed fuel detection: twenty years of operating experience, recent improvements, and planned upgrades
Description
The Delayed Neutron (DN) Monitoring System installed at the Bruce B reactor units has proven to be a powerful tool for the on-line determination of the reactor channel in which a fuel failure has occurred. It allows us to observe, in spite of occasionally noisy raw data, detailed information about a defect and the activity remaining in the affected channel following the removal of the failed fuel bundle. The system sensitivity has not deteriorated significantly over 20 years of operation. A recently developed analysis algorithm has led to a strong improvement in the defect signature to noise ratio.
