Detectors for studying fission neutrons

Description

Some results of investigations into new possibilities for measuring fission neutron characteristics in terms of the macroscopic method are reported. Three techniques are considered: macroscopic fast neutron spectrometer (E-detector); method of simultaneous measurements of the average fission neutron yield and energy (E) (νE-detector), detector for measuring anti ν, insensitive to E (ν-detector). The detectors represent compositions of a hydrogen-containing moderator and slow neutron counters. Experimental results of studying the energy dependence of the slow neutron counter sensitivity (in the 0.1-15 MeV range), and the analysis of the accuracy of the neutron temperature measurements are presented. It is pointed out that the use of the macroscopic method is most profitable in the case when the neutron spectra permit convenient parametrization
