On preparation of samarium, europium and gadolinium oxychlorides
- 1. Krasnoyarskij Inst. Tsvetnykh Metallov (USSR)
Description
Reactions are studied of formation of oxychlorides of Sm, Eu, and Gd by chlorinating their oxides with gaseous chlorine, ammonium chloride, and also by reacting their anhydrous chlorides with atmospheric oxygen. It has been established that chlorination of sesquioxides by gaseous chlorine begins at 400, 320, and 340 deg C, and by ammonium chloride, at 215, 217, and 205 deg C, respectively, for Sm, Eu, and Gd; interaction of anhydrous chlorides with atmospheric oxygen proceeds in the temperature ranges of 260-680 (Sm), 245-610 (Eu), and 250-690 deg C(Gd). The experimental results were treated mathematically: the constants of velocity and activation energy of interaction of sesquioxides of Sm, Eu, and Gd with chlorine and of their anhydrous chlorides with atmospheric oxygen were calculated
