The evaluation of screening tests in a geriatric day hospital assessment clinic

The value of a set of screening tests was assessed at a Geriatric Day Hospital Assessment Clinic both in terms of abnormal results and of their usefulness in the further management of the patient. In this study it was found that a full blood count, thyroid function tests and, to a lesser extent, a bone profile were useful screening tests. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate, urea and electrolytes, liver function tests, cholesterol, uric acid, plasma proteins, acid phosphate, glucose and chest-x-ray were not useful screening tests (author)
