Designing Of Expert System For Technical Feasibility Evaluation Of Nuclear Power Plant

Description

The construction of every large-scale project such as electric power plant requires as much careful preparation as possible. This is due to the risks that may arise if any mistake occur in the planning and in the implementation. Therefore, a tool is needed to support the decision making in its construction. A knowledge-based decision making tool has been designed, to evaluate the technical feasibility of a nuclear power plant (NPP). The technical feasibility means that the NPP can be operated reliably, safely, and in accordance with the desired specifications. Among the significant consideration factors determining the technical performance are reliability factor, safety factor, ergo dynamic factor, and other important technical factors. Those factors are then detailed into the appropriate criteria and sub criteria, and further detailed into the related parameters for the purpose of evaluation. The method used for the evaluation was by assigning weight. The weighing was done by conduction surveys and by discussing with several respondents. The knowledge gathering for the design of the expert system was done by literature study and through discussion with experts. The expert system program has been made by using Delphi 3.0 software and a PC. Hardware with Intel Pentium microprocessor-133, 32 MB RAM, 1.2 GB hard-disk capacity. The recommendation given by the expert system was in the form of technical feasibility level of the evaluated NPP and some suggestion to increase the performance. The recommendation given by this program was not absolute. However, the program can be used as a tool in evaluating the feasibility of a nuclear power plant especially from the technical aspect point of view
