Multiwire proportional chambers for momentum selection of a cosmic ray magnetic spectrometer

Description

Twenty large-area multiwire proportional chambers of 2.3 m x 1.36 m were constructed in order to select muons of momentum above 100 Gev/c in the cosmic ray magnetic spectrometer MUTRON. Mechanical construction, electronics of 2,240 channels, operating characteristics and performance are presented. (orig.)

20 grossflaechige Vieldrahtproportionalkammern von 2,3 m x 1,36 m wurden gebaut, um Myons mit einem Impuls groesser als 100 GeV/C in dem Hoehenstrahlungs-Magnetspektrometer MUTRON zu selektieren. Die mechanische Konstruktion, die Elektronik fuer die 2.240 Kanaele und Testergebnisse werden erlaeutert. (orig.)
