Description
Funding has been approved for two special-purpose neutron spectrometers to be built at the NRU reactor at Chalk River. The new instruments will be installed on above the other at two of the highest flux positions in the reactor. The lower instrument will be a triple-axis crystal spectrometer capable of polarizing neutron beams of variable energy and of determining the polarization state of neutron beams scattered from the sample. The upper instrument will be a high-throughput diffractometer equipped with a wide-angle position-sensitive detector. The DUALSPEC facility will be operated as a national research resource by the newly-formed Canadian Institute for Neutron Scattering. It is expected to be completed by the spring of 1989
