The legal character of DIN standards is discussed on the basis of several judgements issued by the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Germany. The author holds the view that DIN standards are mere descriptions of quality, wheras the relevant literature tends to assume the intention to guarantee a specified quality of goods. (HSCH)
