p3H→n3He charge exchange and p3H and p3He elastic scattering at intermediate energies

Description

The elastic differential p3H cross section at 415 MeV and the charge exchange differential cross section p3H→n3He at 415 and 600 MeV have been measured, using a quasi-monokinetic triton beam obtained by stripping an α-particle beam extracted from the Saturne I synchrotron at Saclay. Putting together these new data and previous results on p3H and p3He elastic scatterings, two complete sets of proton mass-3 nuclei differential cross section are available at 415 and 600 MeV. Expressing the proton-nucleus amplitudes through spin/isospin dependent Glauber model in terms of N-N phase shifts the three differential cross sections can be described simultaneously and satisfactorily at both energies. Nevertheless, some discrepancies remain between theoretical predictions and experiment, specially near and beyond the dip region. These disagreements can be due to the model approximations (off shell effects, multiple scattering momentum transfer equipartition) and/or to the uncertainties on the N-N phase shifts at 600 MeV

Abstract (French)

La section efficace differentielle elastique p3H a 415 MeV et la section efficace differentielle de la reaction d'echange de charge p3H→n3He a 415 et 600 MeV ont ete mesurees en utilisant un faisceau de tritons quasi-monocinetiques obtenu par cassure d'un faisceau de particules α extrait du synchrotron SATURNE I a Saclay. En associant ces nouvelles donnees et les resultats anterieurs des diffusions elastiques p3H et p3He, deux systemes complets de sections efficaces a 415 et 600 MeV. En exprimant les amplitudes proton-noyau dans un modele de Glauber dependant du spin et de l'isospin au moyen des dephasages N-N, les trois sections efficaces differentielles peuvent etre decrites simultanement et de facon satisfaisante aux deux energies. Neanmoins, quelques ecarts subsistent entre les predictions theoriques et l'experience, specialement dans la region du minimum et au-dela. Ces desaccords peuvent etre dus aux approximations du modele (effet hors-couche, equipartition du moment transfere dans les termes de diffusion multiple) et (ou) aux incertitudes sur les dephasages N-N a 600 MeV
