Description
Behavior of hydrogen in Pd during the hydrogen absorption-desorption process was studied through zero-field muon spin relaxation and muon Knight shift measurements. Significant changes in relaxation spectra and Knight shifts were found after the process, suggesting the existence of residual hydrogen which is stable at room temperature even after hydrogen desorption. The resulting muon spin relaxation rate Δ = 0.26 μs-1, activation energy Ea of ∼45 meV and slightly positive muon Knight shift suggest that residual hydrogen atoms are in a similar circumstance to the β hydride phase.
