Analysis of the decays N* →rhoN in the naive quark model

  • 1. Hiroshima Univ. (Japan). Dept. of Physics

Description

The πN → rho N resonant amplitudes are discussed by the naive quark model. The interaction Hamiltonian for the decays N*→rho N is assumed to be described in terms of the quark-rho-meson couplings in analogy with that for N* → γN, and the baryon wave functions of the three-dimensional harmonic oscillator potential model are used to estimate the SU(6)sub(w)-breaking effects. It is shown that the longitudinal motion of quark in hadron is essential to reproduce the right signs and magnitudes of resonant amplitudes. This motion causes the ΔL sub(Z)=0 process, but violates the prediction by SU(6)sub(w), i.e., the longitudinal helicity amplitude of rho-meson has the sign different from that predicted by SU(6)sub(w). The transverse motion of quark is suppressed in contrast to that obtained from decays N*→γN. (auth.)
