Case report: CT of giant renal liposarcoma before and after surgery treatment

Full text: Introduction:A liposarcoma is a tumor made mostly of fat cells. The tumor may also have other cell types such as those found in bone, cartilage, and other tissue. Liposarcoma is most commonly found in legs and thighs. Tumors may also be found in retroperitoneum, arms, chest, and neck. . Liposarcoma most commonly occurs in people between the ages of 50 to 70. Liposarcoma may be a low grade or high grade tumor. A high grade tumor is usually larger in size, and often spreads to other areas in body. High grade tumors are harder to treat. Liposarcomas that are found and treated before they spread have a better chance of being cured. The prognosis varies depending on the site of origin, the type of cancer cell, the tumor size, the depth, and proximity to lymph nodes. Well differentiated liposarcomas treated with surgery and radiation have a low recurrence rate (about 10%) and rarely metastases. Case report. Female, 48-year old patient, with giant retroperitoneal, heterogeneous, well-defined mass with solid aspect was detected by renal ultrasonography. Computerized tomography was performed, showing an expansive, solid, heterogeneous lesion in right abdomen with 38 UH attenuation, heterodense, measuring 35 x 17cm mass with capsula and with preservation of perirenal fat. There was no contrast medium impregnation in the tumoral lesion during the late phase. Radical right nephrectomy was performed. Mass and weight of tumor is 25 kg. Control CT after 3 month do not show metastases in the abdominal organs
