Description
An extensive search for detecting the magnetic monopoles has been made in this research unit using (i) a cosmic ray exposed stack and (ii) two stacks-one exposed to 350 GeV/c π--mesons and the other to 1.8 GeV/c K-mesons obtained from the CERN Synchro-Cyclotron. The first part of the experiment with the cosmic ray stack has been completed in which 107 heavy primary tracks were recorded and measured; 2(two) of them were suspected, but after rigorous measurements none could be ascertained to be due to any form of monopoles. In the second part with the machine exposed stacks are being scanned and a large number of heavily ionizing tracks are recorded, but measurements of their delta rays for identification have not yet been completed.
