Proceedings of the institute for environmental sciences international symposium on the environmental dynamics of radionuclides and the biological effects of low dose-rate radiation
Description
This special issue of Radiation Protection Dosimetry constitutes the proceedings of the 30. anniversary international symposium of the Institute for Environmental Sciences entitled 'Environmental Dynamics of Radionuclides and the Biological Effects of Low Dose-rate Radiation', organized by the Institute for Environmental Sciences. The symposium was held online on 27-29 September 2021. With the participation of 239 scientists and young students from 11 countries, including in the USA, EU, Asia, Africa and Australia, we had eight special lectures, 14 oral presentations, 68 poster presentations and one panel discussion. The symposium covered three main topics of radiation research. First, the environmental dynamics of radionuclides, including cesium, carbon, tritium, iodine and others, which were discharged at the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident in 2011, and are also scheduled to be discharged upon the operation of the plant for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel in Rokkasho village beginning in 2022. The second topic was the effect of continuous exposure to low dose and low-dose-rate ionizing radiation on cancer induction and hereditary risk. The third concentrated on tritium, i.e. the environmental dynamics of tritium and its biological effects in vitro and in vivo. Lastly was (risk) communication. The panelists discussed how to properly and effectively share scientific evidence of radiation on human health and ecosystems with the public
