Description

The occurrence of natural radionuclides in the environment is an important part of the general study of radionuclide migration, and may even be used as an analogue of the possible behaviour of radionuclides in case of an accident in a radioactive waste repository or in a nuclear fuel plant. The most important natural radionuclides in this study are uranium, thorium, radium and plutonium, because the quantity of the different isotopes of each element at each site can lead to an understanding of the mobilisation mechanism. Uranium has been selected here. Uranium is one of the heaviest naturally occurring elements on earth and plays an important role in daily life because of its use in nuclear power plants
