Conclusion of the workshop: Physics and its future at Saturne

The closing down of Saturne facility is scheduled at the very end of 1997. Four programs: ETA, DISTO, SPES4Π and transmutation have been given priority since 1993 and then are the backbone of Saturne activities. ETA program has been set aside because of the non delivery of detection crystal. DISTO is dedicated to the strange quark field and precise measurements about the elementary processes: p p → p K+ Λ (or Σ) and p p → p p φ are expected. SPES4π is a device built from SPES4 spectrometer which allows the coincidence detection of low energy particle with particle emitted forward. This equipment will be used to study decay products of pions. Transmutation program focuses on measurements of double differential cross section of neutron production. These new values are necessary to update nuclear data libraries used by neutronic codes in order to make them more reliable. (A.C.)
