A BAL QSO with zsub(em) = 3.50 and a QSO with z = 3.31 from a UK Schmidt IIIa-F objective prism survey

Description

The paper describes the discovery and preliminary slit spectroscopy of the broad absorption line QSO 0105-2634 with an emission redshift of 3.50, the highest yet reported for this type of QSO. Attention is drawn to the fine detail which can be observed in objective prism spectra. A second QSO 1209+0919 with z = 3.31 and strong absorption near O VI is also noted. These new WSOs were found in two regions of sky in which the discovery of other QSOs with 3.3<z<3.8 already has been reported. (author)
