Light-induced atomic collisions: experimental verification of line shapes

Description
Laser-induced excitation spectra of absorptive collisional energy transfer via dipole-dipole interaction between europium and strontium atoms have been recorded with high spectral resolution. They are quantitatively compared with spectra calculated (i) from a perturbative line-broadening theory, which agree well with the experimental line core, and (ii) by numerical integration of the equations of motion of the colliding system.
