Thermal hydraulic testing for ITER high heat flux components

Description
Critical heat flux (CHF) and pressure drop tests were carried out on Glidcop swirl tubes with monobloc-like geometry representative of a Carbon fibre composite (CFC) tube-in-tile concept for the vertical target of ITER divertor. The CHF tests were performed on the FE200 electron beam facility of CEA/Framatome in collaboration with the European home team. The best results were obtained with a thick swirled tape allowing a maximum peaked incident heat flux between 30 and 35 MW/m2 for a pressure drop of 0.6 MPa/m at ITER nominal thermal hydraulic conditions. After this first CHF test campaign. a second one was performed in the same conditions on a CFC prototypical mock-up: the CHF limit was found at 30 MW/m2. (author)
