Description
The existing procedure for determination of helicobacter pylori bacteria infection on the basis of activity measurement of the exhaled 14C-carbon dioxide formed from 14C-urea in stomach has well-established interpretation criteria. After 37 kBq of capsulated 14C -urea administration the patient has to breath out 1 mmol of CO2 in counting vial. The 14C activity of counting vial is than measured in liquid scintillator counter. Real interpretation criteria of helicobacter pylori infection are correlated with 14C activity and expressed in DPM units. Interpretation criteria in CPM units, which are usually performed, can produce some errors, especially at range borders. These errors as well as the calibration procedure are the subject of this paper. (author)
