Dosimetry and shielding of X and gamma radiations

Description

The monograph is a high-level one, the intended reader being a university graduate in physics, medicine or engineering. The introductory chapters deal with the general properties of X and gamma rays, and with their interactions with matter. Microscopic processes as well as macroscopic or global effects are outlined. A special emphasis is put on the basic quantities and concepts. Afterwards, the specific dosimetric methods are presented: ionization, calorimetric, photographic, and solid state dosimetry. A separate chapter deals with computational methods in dosimetry; another, with the peculiar aspects of dosimetry for radiation protection, with an extensive treatment of environmental dosimetry. The last chapter is devoted to shielding problems. All the concepts, quantities, and measuring units in this book have been checked against the current international documents issued by IAEA and other international authorities. The book ends with an index, a summary, and contents in English. (Author)
