Design, test and widespread implementation of a compact kilo-Watt fluoride ion target
- 1. CTI Molecular Imaging, 810 Innovation Drive, Knoxville, TN 37932 (United States)
Description
A thermally optimized design of a fluoride target made from tantalum has been designed, tested and deployed into a large network of fluoride production centers. This target has superior oxidation resistance, and the added benefit of extremely low generation of mobile undesired radionuclidic contaminants. One kilo-Watt beam power at good yields has been achieved. Basic operating parameters will be discussed. Efforts at testing the target well in excess of its operational envelope will be shown, including determination of its suitability for use in producing 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose. Finally, the effect of the change of target body only on a large-scale commercial network will be discussed
