Gastrogastric fistula after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: A case report and review of literature

In 1994 Cucchi et al. [7] published for the first time a work identifying gastrogastric fistulas (GF) as a complication of open gastric circulation in Roux-en-Y (RYGB). The results showed that GF develops regardless of the division of the excluded stomach gastric pouch. Some authors attribute GF to technical failures, early postoperative leaks or even marginal ulcers. In addition, diagnosis is often difficult and requires a high index suspicious, mainly due to the absence of symptoms and pathognomonic signs [14]. To date, there is no consensus on a ideal algorithm for optimal diagnosis of GF, and treatment it is usually done according to the presentation and the patient [13,14]. In this article, we present the case of a patient treated in our center with recurrent GF and we performed a review updated literature on the subject
